THE DOG IT WAS THAT DIED & AFTER MAGRITTE

THE DOG IT WAS THAT DIED & AFTER MAGRITTE

September 1994

The theme of the plays is the treachery of appearances. Life may masquerade as surrealist art, as in "After Magritte", or it may be undermined by profound absurdities as in "The Dog It Was That Died". In our hilarious struggle to overcome the impossibility of life, we are at least amusing. In language which is by turns frivolous and scholastic, Stoppard weaves a bizarre frolic through the strangeness of it all.
